| Bio: | Name: Spencer Warren Date of Birth: August 4th, 1964 Age: 45 Race/Species: vampire Hometown: Winnetka, IL Physical description: Spencer is broad, tall (6'1"), sculpted and dark. He is, as his ex wife always called him, smooth hot chocolate. But despite his strong features, dark eyes and imposing stature, there is hardly anything imposing about him. He has a bright, glorious smile that he uses very often. Most of his body is smooth and hairless, except for the well trimmed bits of facial hair he often sports. He secretly "manscapes", but he tries not to overdo it so it isn't obvious. PB: Taye Diggs Personality: Spencer is smart, professional, and serious... when he's working. He's very strict about keeping his professional life seperate from his personal life because he wants his clients to be able to trust and respect him. If the people you're caring for can't take you seriously, they can't trust you. But outside the office Spencer is funny, goofy and sort of a nerd (exemplified by his affinity for bow ties). He's a very social creature, and while he enjoys being with his friends, sometimes he has a hard time turning off his professional instincts and he analyzes them too much. Background: Spencer and his family were one of the very few black families in Winnekta while he was growing up. WHen Spencer was born, all over the country racial tensions were building and the civil rights movement was coming into full swing. But money has its priviledge, and Spencer's family had plenty of it. While the country went to war with itself, the Warren family managed to get by with minimal intrusion in their lives. Spencer's father was a successful dentist in nearby Chicago, his mother a legal secretary for a progressive law firm (they had not one, but two Hispanic lawyers on staff!). Not to mention that their family had been a staple in Winnekta for generations. So therefore, they were fotunate enough to survive unscathed through the tumultuous oncoming years. Spencer was lucky enough so he and his brothers grew up without having to witness firsthand the horrors that some other people faced every day. After graduating high school in 1982, Spencer went on to college at the University of Illinois to study psychology with a minor in sociology. (A small part of him felt cheated by his upbringing, because the priviledge he'd had had shielded him from the true hardships of other black americans his age. He wanted to help people, and the only real way to help was to understand.) Completeing his undergraduate degree and ranking in the top 5% of his class, he went on to graduate school for his Psy.D at Harvard in Boston. Living in Boston was a huge change from living in Chicago, even though both were large cities with liberal ideas. But Spencer loved it just the same. He loved the diversity, and the ideas, and the seafood (New England really knew seafood). On December 16th, 1986, after Spencer had finished his first semester at Harvard with high marks, his life changed forever. He had just left a bar where he'd met up with some friends for an end-of-semester party, and was walking alone along the empty, snowy streets when a group of guys jumped him and robbed him. Spencer was not a small man, so right away the group figured they would need to take him down before he could fight back. One of them struck him in the head with a wooden bat, and while he staggered another stabbed him in the stomach three times. And then, even though it was unnecessary, the bat struck him in the kneecap, shattering the bone and making him unable to walk. As the group ran away with his wallet, his keys and his coat, Spencer laid there on the pavement and gasped for breath and slowly came to terms that they had stolen his life, too. But he was in luck that night. A vampire had left a den not far from the bar where Spencer had come, and she stumbled across the man lying there bleeding out in the alley. A quick assessment told her what had happened, and she didn't want him to die so she began feeding on him, draining his blood and then splitting open her wrist and offering her own. She told Spencer that he needed to drink, or he wouldn't live to see the next day. Being on death's door and delirious from the cold and from losing so much blood, he obliged. The next evening, when Spencer finally regained consciousness, was filled with staggering surprises. For one, his savious came in the form of a smiling, bubbly, fourteen year old girl. Whom, as it turned out, was not fourteen, but three hundred and nine. Also, she was a vampire, and now Spencer was too. Not only that, but she had brought him to a den, where he needed to stay for a while until he could control his bloodlust. And there were a lot (a whole lot) of vampires in Boston, it seemed. It was too much for him to wrap his head around. But gradually, Spencer went through the five stages of grief, because he had just died and he needed to come to accept that. Getting his family to accept it had been a bit harder, as well as getting used to drinking blood and avoiding sunlight and all the other complications of his newly undead life. Giving up school had been the hardest, though, not going on to complete his degree. He wanted to help people but he couldn't see how he could now. He lived in the den for four years, meeting many new vampires (and some old) as they came and went. A staggering amount had been turned as children, and many new vampires came to the den because their sires had been killed by hunters and they were left to fend for themselves long before they were ready. Some were runaway teens, having been turned because they'd fallen into a bad crowd and thought that eternal life would help them survive. But it wasn't that easy, and a lot of them wished for true death because life had become unbearable. It was seeing these people that made Spencer more determined than ever to find a way to go back to school, and focus his work on helping supernaturals. After some digging, he and his sire discovered a college in Vermont that specialized in supernatural education, the University of Unnatural Sciences. It was there that Spencer earned his graduate degree in Abnormal Psychology, with a focus on supernatural psyche. He worked at a small, private school in Cambridge, MA from 1996 - 2008. But because the school was privately owned, Spencer felt he wasn't reaching a diverse enough group of students. He held onto the job for as long as he did because it was difficult to find supernatural schools, but he missed the variety of the city. In late 2008, he heard of an opening for a psychologist at very old (but only recently known) school in Danvers, so he set his sights on TJS in the hopes of reaching the kind of students who really needed him.
